I know that some people don’t want to participate in the tumblr strike tomorrow, because they think that it won’t accomplish anything. And yeah, it probably won’t. But fuck the idea that we should just sit back, fiddle with the dimensions on our stylish extensions, and try to pretend tumblr is still a website that includes us. Even if it’s a fruitless effort, it’s still an effort and a chance for us to at least make a blip in Yahoo’s corporate agenda.

I’m going to participate in the tumblr strike on November 3 and I think that you should too. Even if only 20 or 30 thousand people decide to actually make a stand tomorrow, that’s still a threat to Yahoo revenue streams, on a website that’s already tanking in their minds. It’s a unified act, where the “young people” that these corporations think they can read and manipulate get an actual say. A direct declaration that we don’t want their youtube competitor, that they can’t dictate what types of media we use, that we’re not going to blindly participate in a site that doesn’t give a shit about our voices. I’m not willing to just sit back and let my words and art be pushed aside, all for the sake of a corporate agenda. Are you?

It’s one day off of one website. That’s something we can all do. And whether or not tumblr takes notice, at least we’ll have tried.
