I see a lot of people commenting that he’s just mad at the interviewer for bringing Ben up, not at Ben, and I really have to disagree. No, this was not directed at the interviewer (at least not only at her), this was directed at Ben.

Remember when in a Hobbit interview the journalist said “it’s all about the dragon”? Martin was like “it’s fucking not about the dragon, you should remember it’s called The fucking Hobbit, and you’re talking to him now”.

In this interview he could have said “it’s not Benedict’s fucking SNL” or “I’m the one fucking hosting the show” or something like that, something directed at the journalists with his usual dry humor, like a “fuck you I’m not Benedict”. But he said “Benedict can go fuck himself”. It doesn’t matter if he was joking, it was directed at Ben, not the interviewer. He had to say “next comment” because he was clearly uncomfortable, which makes me think he wasn’t 100% joking (though I don’t think he was being 100% serious either).

And if we keep into account that 1) Martin didn’t have eye contact with Ben at least during the whole BOFA’s premier livestream even though Ben kept looking at him and 2) he went away from him when he could:

And also the fact that there was no mention of Sherlock AT ALL in Martin’s SNL episode, when John Watson is one of the roles he’s most known for.

I understand we all see things from a different perspective and I also understand not everyone has to agree with me, but sometimes with this fandom I feel like some people are deliberately ignoring what they see.

I’m concerned, and I get why some people decide it’s not worth worrying, but the “oh, no, they’re as good friends as ever, they’re just sick of people bringing them together all the time” is beyond me. The interviewers have been doing that since Sherlock became popular, and Martin never reacted that way before when people asked him about Ben:

Here he said “Who?” when asked about Ben and even called him “motherfucker”, but right after the joke he said this:

Here he said “It’s alright, I’ve had worse” when asked how is it like to work with Ben, but after the joke:
